Greetings and welcome to another school year in the Schavey Road Art Room! For those that do not know me, I have been an elementary art teacher in DeWitt since 2005. During those years I have had the privilege of guiding students through the process of creating art, and each year I gain new appreciation for the works they create. Children are often able to harness the joy of creating works of art that we “grown ups” can only hope to emulate. My wife Sara and I have two children, Amelia and Gwen. We did our best to make the most of another beautiful Michigan summer. For me, one of the great joys of the summer months is being able to take time for my own artwork as my family and I rest, recharge, and plan for the upcoming school year. As always, it is a pleasure to be able to share my love of art with students, and I am looking forward to another great year!
Art Room Blog:
I would like to invite you to make regular visits the Schavey Road Art Blog, where I will be posting regular updates showcasing our artistic adventures. You can also browse the student galleries to check out some of our outstanding work from previous years. The web address is: www.schaveyart.weebly.com
Art room wish list:
Housekeeping supplies: We could use paper towels, baby wipes/hand wipes (kid safe - non clorox), sponges, tissues, zipper sandwich bags, and brown paper lunch sacks.
Art supplies: we typically use standard Crayola art supplies (washable whenever possible) – markers, crayons, colored pencils, watercolor paints, and of course plenty of paper!
About Art Class:
Art classes at Schavey meet for 40 minutes as part of our three day rotating specials schedule.
Our art curriculum has four main components: Art Production, Art Concepts, Art Appreciation, and (last but not least!) - FUN! My overarching goal is to provide a fun and creative learning environment that fosters a love and appreciation for art that will continue for years to come.
Students will save most of their finished artwork in the art room throughout the marking period. This practice will allow us to create a “portfolio” of work that will help each student see and celebrate what they are learning in art class.
Thank you, I hope you are looking forward to a great year!
